PLEASE HELP ME GET ELECTED.  Tell your friends and post on social media to vote for an environmentalist, anthropologist, and educator. I am a candidate for the Nov 3, 2026, election for a seat on the Board of Trustees, Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD). The District covers 34 cities in Los Angeles County. Campaign and personal website is www.nancypearlman.net.

As Trustee Emeritus with the Los Angeles Community College District, I bring a wealth of experience to provide oversight to the nine colleges and District, the main responsibility of the Board of Trustees as I found out serving sixteen years on the Board. As an environmentalist for over fifty years, I know what is needed to make the District’s building programs greener and continue my lead in the sustainability arena. I will work to make the college campuses more sustainable to save money, to be more ecological, and to make them safe and healthy. As an anthropologist, I have taught courses at the District and know what is needed to keep academic standards high and to advocate for equal pay for the majority of faculty who are part-time adjuncts. As an educator who has run a nonprofit organization for over fifty years, I know how important information and knowledge is. I know what is needed to help students get an education which will help in future careers and will make the colleges accessible for life-long learning opportunities for the community. As a Trustee, I will:
* provide an independent voice for students, faculty, staff, and the community because I am not beholden to special interests and will not accept corporate donations.
* understand the needs of a diverse student body because of my multi-ethnic heritage.
* be a watchdog for the taxpayers in overseeing the District’s billions of dollars.
* advocate for high academic standards and for programs to help students such as providing free textbooks, getting students the other resources needed to allow them to take classes, and letting homeless students use the parking lots and facilities at night.

I have my own production and consulting company specializing in environmental videos, ecotourism, and sustainability. I am an anthropologist for a folk dance company. I work for a nonprofit educational organization that has Oscar and EMMY-nominations. I work with humanitarian projects in Africa and the United States.
Community colleges provide an excellent opportunity to get lower division credits and I will work to ensure transfer opportunities to universities exist. As someone who attended Los Angeles City College, Chapman College, the Semester at Sea, UCLA, USC, and Antioch University to receive three teaching credentials, a BA, and a Masters of Arts in Urban Studies and Planning with an Environmental Studies speciality, I know how higher education works!

BRIEF LIST OF LACCD ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND FUTURE GOALS

As in the past, I will continue to serve the community, faculty, staff, and students in the LACCD.

I got the nine billion dollar building program to be green and sustainable which changed the whole construction business in southern California so that people had to follow LEEDS. I fought construction mismanagement to the extent that I am personally being sued for forty million dollars by one bad company. Court case is in September if courts are back in operation.

I represented staff and faculty, especially part-timers, for better pay and working conditions. As the only part-timer on the board, I spoke up for more pay, especially for preparation and benefits.

I made sure that students were heard and respected and had the classes they needed. Now, they need to return to the classroom as soon as health officials say it is okay.

I worked to make the college operations sustainable so that there would be more resources (money, materials, etc.) for teaching. Most of the current trustees oppose sustainability although they publicly claim they are for it as part of their “greenwashing” efforts.

I led the effort to save Gold Creek Ecological Preserve from being sold; this unique outdoor learning environment that belongs to the LACCD and is used by all nine colleges should be better publicized and supported.

I tried to get better presidents and chancellors based on their accomplishments. I support diversity in hiring but look first at who will do the best job.
